Manjeshwar (ಮಂಜೇಶ್ವರ, മഞ്ചേശ്വരം) is a coastal town and minor port at the northern tip of Kerala, about 30 km north of Kasaragod and 20 km south of Mangaluru. Thalappady, near the town, marks the state's northern border with Karnataka. The town takes its name from the Srimath Anantheshwara temple. Since 2013 it has also given its name to Manjeshwaram taluk, Kerala's northernmost, whose taluk office is in Uppala.
The sea is the oldest trade here. Manjeshwar is one of three minor ports in Kasaragod district, and a fisheries port built with central and state funds opened in October 2020. Each monsoon, Kerala's trawling ban, enforced since 1988, keeps the big mechanised boats ashore; in 2024 it ran for 52 days, from June 9 to July 31. Kanwatheertha beach, about 3 km north of town, has a large pool-like inlet in the sea and gets most of its visitors from January to March.
Language here comes in layers. Kannada has linguistic minority status in Manjeshwaram taluk, and people around Kunjathur speak Malayalam, Tulu, Beary, Konkani and Dakhini Urdu. The Kerala Tulu Academy works from Hosangadi. Rashtrakavi M. Govinda Pai, the Kannada poet, was born in Manjeshwar in 1883. In 2017 his home, Gilivindu, reopened as a memorial with an amphitheatre for plays and Yakshagana, a library and space for archives.
Uppala, 22 km north of Kasaragod and roughly midway to Mangaluru, has grown into the trading hub of the taluk. It sits on NH 66 with a bus station and buses to Kasaragod and Mangaluru every few minutes. Manjeshwar itself has a railway station and Govinda Pai College. For many local businesses, customers live on both sides of the state line, and a website has to make clear in its first lines where you are and whom you serve.

Manjeshwar is the northernmost town in Kerala, just short of Talapady and the Karnataka border, and its trade runs both ways across that line. Commercially it works as part of the Mangaluru belt.
