Ullal (ಉಳ್ಳಾಲ) lies on the Arabian Sea just south of Mangaluru, on the far side of the Netravati. Its city municipal council, upgraded in 2014, is the second-largest civic body in the Mangaluru urban area, and in 2019 the state decided to form a separate Ullal taluk, taking in Kotekar, Talapady, Someshwar, Konaje and other villages. Thokkottu, on National Highway 66, is the busy junction where one road turns west to Ullal and another runs east to Deralakatte. Buses from Thokkottu also cross the state border to Kasaragod.
The sea has shaped Ullal for centuries; before colonial rule it was one of the major ports of the west coast. Today the town is a trading centre for fish and fish manure, fishing and beedi rolling are main occupations, and a fish meal and oil plant is among its landmarks. Ullal also produces hosiery and coir yarn. Much of this is trade between businesses, and the buyer wants grades, quantities and packing details settled before any talk of price.
East of Thokkottu, Deralakatte has grown into a university and medical town. Nitte University, Yenepoya University and Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College are there, along with hospitals such as K S Hegde Charitable Hospital and Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, and the stretch from Thokkottu to Konaje is known as the medical corridor. Mangalore University is close by at Konaje, and the Kerala border is only about 9 km away. Students, patients and their families need rooms, meals, medicines, transport and help with paperwork, every day of the year.
Ullal also draws visitors. The Sayyid Madani Dargah holds its Uroos once every five years, a month-long gathering that brings pilgrims from across the country, and the trust that runs it also runs an Arabic college, a technical institute and a charitable hospital. Someshwara beach, known for the Rudra Paadhe rocks and the Somanatha temple on the shore, is not safe for swimming but is popular for its sunsets. The ruins of the fort built by Rani Abbakka, the 16th-century queen who fought the Portuguese, still stand near the Someshwara temple.

The town is written both Ullal and Ullala, and the junction both Thokkottu and Thokottu. Work both forms of each into your About and Contact pages. If your shop is really in Someshwar, Kotekar or Talapady, name that village as well, because that is what a neighbour will type.
Ullal has a large Beary-speaking community, and Tulu, Kannada and Malayalam are all heard between Thokkottu and the border. Build the site in English and Kannada, list on your Contact page the languages your staff can handle, and let a customer who writes in Beary or Malayalam get a reply in it.
Deralakatte's hospitals and universities are what many visitors search for. If your pharmacy, lab, lodge or eatery is on that road, say how far you are from the nearest hospital or college gate, and pick exact categories such as Pharmacy, Medical laboratory or Lodging. The 22nd Uroos began in April 2025, and each one runs for about a month. Once the dates of the next are announced, pilgrims begin searching for rooms and food near the Dargah. Put the dates on your site, add a post to your Google Business Profile, and set special hours so nobody arrives at a closed shutter.
On the day after Krishna Janmashtami, the Mosaru Kudike procession brings huge crowds onto Thokkottu's streets. Shops and eateries on the route can post their hours and any access notes a few days before, so regular customers know whether to come early or wait.
People come to Someshwara beach for the Rudra Paadhe rocks and the sunset, not to swim. A café or stall nearby should show evening hours, recent photos and the walk from the Somanatha temple, and its map pin should match the entrance visitors actually use.
